Wirechunk HTTP API
Use the management API to create sites, read and edit content, validate drafts, publish releases, and manage authorized account operations.
The production origin is https://app.wirechunk.com. Most management routes start with /api. The current machine-readable contract is available at app.wirechunk.com/openapi.json.
Authenticate first
Requests use an authorized browser session or an OAuth access token with the wirechunk:manage scope. The token identifies a user; ordinary account and site permissions still apply. See authentication.
Read before editing
List the sites available to the user, select a site, and read its current draft. Records have stable IDs and saved version IDs. When changing a record, include the current expectedVersionId where the operation supports it so you can detect concurrent edits.
A content update saves a draft version and returns the editing action and updated object. PATCH uses JSON Merge Patch: omitted fields stay as they are, while a supplied array replaces that array. PUT replaces the record and requires a complete document according to its schema.
Preview and publish
A saved edit can leave a broken reference elsewhere in the site. Preview and Publish check the draft automatically and report errors that need correction. Request a preview URL when a person needs to review the result.
Publishing releases the saved versions together and requires active site service. Billing activation is a separate operation with owner authorization and any required payment step. An API edit does not implicitly authorize a charge.
Handle errors as part of the workflow
Errors include a machine-readable code, human-readable detail, and a suggested resolution. Refresh current data after conflicts; honor retry information for temporary limits. See errors and rate limits.
The API reference shows common operations and examples. Each published customer site also exposes its own unauthenticated public tools and OpenAPI description. Those operate on public information and forms, not the authenticated management API described here.
