Historical note: This is Wirechunk’s original launch announcement from June 2025. It describes the product and plans at that time. Explore the new Wirechunk.

Today, we are announcing the public launch of our website platform!

As a team, we’ve poured over 5,700 hours of effort into developing what we believe is now the best platform for building ambitious, beautiful, and fast websites.

Our journey started 10 years ago when Dmitriy got into building and hosting sites for small businesses. At first this was a side gig helping him pay his way through college, and gradually it grew into a robust business. From the earliest days, he wasn’t pleased with the tools for building sites and had started thinking about what an ideal website development platform would be like.

You can find the first version of Wirechunk (it went by a different name at that time) on GitHub. From the README, the mission then was essentially the same as it is now:

“The goal of this project is to provide a free and open source content management system and framework for building websites and app backends. Security and reliability are the primary focus. The extensible plugin architecture is meant to make it safe to run third-party plugins without compromising the main process.”

Although today’s Wirechunk is not open source, we’re committed to building a flourishing open source ecosystem for developers, designers, and marketers.

For this launch, we’ve decided to hide about 70% of the product’s capabilities behind feature flags. The intent is to launch with a smaller product surface area and to progressively roll out the remaining features as soon as each one meets our quality bar.

Wirechunk’s architecture and capabilities are ideal for growing businesses that want to invest in a strong online presence while:

We’ll continue building the most productive platform for all types of websites. We’ll add more AI-powered features to give you leverage, strengthen our design system to help you maintain consistency and save time managing large websites, and simplify the way you can extend our platform with custom code.

Our first customer migrated from a large, highly custom WordPress site with dozens of plugins. Their site was preventing them from innovating and was reaching scale limitations. On Wirechunk, they’ve built everything they ever wanted and more, and have grown revenue by over 330%.

More than 850 businesses already have a site on our platform from our private beta stage, and we’ve relied on their real-world feedback to refine every feature.

We’re a team of three with collectively more than two decades of experience building software, managing multinational projects, and growing successful sales teams from scratch.

Our product roadmap is audacious. The path we’ve laid out is both daunting and exhilarating.
